The first indoor cat we ever had came to live with us when I was around 10. She was stubborn and not particularly cuddly for a cat. Choosing to nap on my lap was therefore a special moment I did not want to interrupt. While stroking her carefully, I tried to ignore my bladder’s call. Fortunately, after what seemed like a good couple of hours, she heard a call too.
This week marks 5 years since Mimi is gone. Most of my memories with her are from when I was a teenager so I don’t want to include them in my Childhood Memories series. This one, though, one of the earliest I have of her, felt right.
I miss the old lady a lot, still. I never thought losing a pet could cause such a lasting heartbreak.
This video is from 2019, two months before her health got really bad and had to be put to sleep. 2019 was also the last year of when I still had a strand of will to write my bachelor degree, so while I was staying up late researching and writing, she was waiting by my side. She always went to bed with me, if only to stay by my side for just a little while.
Until next week, cheers! - Mojca
